Chelsea vs Fulham VAR Controversy: João Pedro opened the scoring with a well-timed header. Enzo Fernández followed up by converting a penalty to seal Chelsea’s win over Fulham.

The West London derby was marked by several key VAR calls that shaped the outcome. In the first half, Josh King briefly thought he had given Fulham the lead.

Chelsea vs Fulham VAR controversy as Pedro scores a header and Fernández nets a penalty in a heated West London derby.

Moments later, VAR stepped in and ruled the goal out, citing a foul by Rodrigo Muniz on Trevoh Chalobah during the build-up. Fulham’s celebrations were cut short after referee Robert Jones spent several minutes checking the monitor.

The decision went against them, and the mood shifted from joy to frustration for the rest of the derby. Pedro added to his promising Chelsea start with a goal on the stroke of half-time.

The second half brought more drama. VAR cleared Pedro of a foul before penalising Ryan Sessegnon for handball. That ruling gave Chelsea a penalty, and Enzo Fernández calmly doubled the lead from the spot.

Fulham carved out the first chances of the match. Joachim Andersen shot wide, and Alex Iwobi followed with another miss. Chelsea responded soon after, but Liam Delap’s effort was blocked well by Andersen.

Delap’s evening ended almost as quickly as it began. The new signing pulled up while chasing a long ball and appeared to injure his hamstring. He was substituted after only 13 minutes.

Josh King seemed to have produced a brilliant goal midway through the half. He left Tosin Adarabioyo off balance at the end of a sharp Fulham counter and drove the ball into the corner.

The celebrations didn’t last. Referee Robert Jones ruled it out, saying Rodrigo Muniz had fouled Trevoh Chalobah while skipping past him near the halfway line.

The call infuriated Marco Silva. Fulham’s travelling supporters were just as outraged, convinced Muniz had only clipped Chalobah by accident as he tried to avoid the tackle.

Robert Sánchez pulled off a sharp save to deny Rodrigo Muniz at close range after a pinpoint cross from Ryan Sessegnon. Soon after, Moisés Caicedo kept Chelsea level with a vital sliding challenge that stopped Timothy Castagne from finishing.

In stoppage time, Chelsea struck first. Enzo Fernández delivered a corner from the left. João Pedro adjusted his position, rose well, and angled his header down into the net from six yards out.

Fulham’s problems deepened right after the restart. Ryan Sessegnon handled Trevoh Chalobah’s cross, and the referee pointed to the spot.

VAR was called in once more for a long review. Officials confirmed João Pedro had not fouled in the build-up and ruled that Sessegnon’s raised arm had made his body “unnaturally bigger.”

Enzo Fernández calmly slotted his penalty straight down the middle. The goal made it 2–0, and Fulham suddenly looked shaky.

Estevão then carved out space inside the box and forced Bernd Leno into a sharp save at his near post. Leno was tested again soon after, stopping João Pedro when a defensive lapse gifted him a clear run at goal.
