Goose: Rock band Goose has responded publicly after a fan died from injuries sustained during their concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Police say a 51-year-old man fell from a balcony inside the venue during Saturday night's performance. He was rushed to the hospital. He did not survive.
The band kept playing after the incident occurred. Goose is made up of Rick Mitarotonda, Trevor Weekz, Peter Anspach, and Cotter Ellis.
It remains unclear whether the musicians knew what had happened in the crowd while they were on stage.
Hours later, the band shared a statement online. They called the loss "heartbreaking." They expressed sympathy for everyone touched by the tragedy.
They also thanked first responders and Madison Square Garden staff for their assistance.
The full statement read: "We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight's show.
We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected. Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support."
Goose, which hails from Connecticut, finished its complete 16-song set list that night. The show wrapped up before midnight.
Authorities have not released the victim's name. The cause of the fall is still under investigation. The NYPD says it happened at approximately 9:51 p.m. ET.
In a statement to The Independent, the NYPD described the scene: officers found the man unconscious and unresponsive, with injuries consistent with a fall from height.
EMS crews transported him to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. Concertgoers captured the aftermath on their phones.
Photos circulating on social media show venue staff clearing seven rows of seats near the area where the man fell. Police tape was used to cordon off the section.
It's still unknown whether band members were informed of the emergency in real time. Even so, Madison Square Garden has drawn criticism online.
The show was livestreamed via Amazon Music, and fans are now questioning the decision to let the concert continue.
Reactions poured in across social media. One Instagram user called the choice to continue "poor judgement."
Another commenter said the show should have been stopped, calling the decision "not professional."
A Reddit post echoed similar frustration: the user wasn't sure who bore responsibility — the band, the venue, or Amazon — but argued that continuing the show under the circumstances was unacceptable.
The post urged people to look out for one another in the wake of the tragedy.
Amazon Music has not yet responded to The Independent's request for comment.
The Madison Square Garden concert marked the second of two New York shows for Goose.
The performances are part of the band's Summer 2026 tour, which spans 27 shows across 19 cities in the United States and Canada.
