Angel Reese: The Atlanta Dream completed a season-series sweep of the Indiana Fever on Saturday.
They defeated Indiana 113-96 at State Farm Arena. It marked Atlanta's second win over the Fever in three days.
Rhyne Howard led all scorers with 24 points. Angel Reese added 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Caitlin Clark paced Indiana with 26 points, but the Fever's defense struggled once again. Indiana has now allowed more than 100 points in four of its last five games.
The two teams met for the second time this week in a home-and-home series. Atlanta took the opener on Thursday, winning 108-101.
Reese made history in the first half. Her sixth rebound of the night gave her 1,000 for her WNBA career.
She reached the milestone in just 79 games. That broke the previous record of 89 games, set by Tina Charles.
Atlanta got contributions across the board. All five Dream starters scored in double figures. Allisha Gray finished with 21 points.
Naz Hillmon added 19. Jordin Canada chipped in 12 points and dished out a team-high 12 assists.
The win improved Atlanta's record to 11-4, pulling the Dream even with the Las Vegas Aces for second place in the WNBA standings.
Slow Start Turns Into Blowout
Indiana looked sharp early. The Fever shot 61% from the field in the first half and an even better 60% from three-point range.
Clark scored 15 of her 26 points before the break. Guard Mitchell added 16 first-half points, knocking down two threes of her own.
Despite the hot shooting, Indiana's lead was thin. The Fever led by just 59-56 at halftime. Atlanta had trailed by as many as 11 points in the second quarter.
The Dream clawed back before the break, even while shooting a more modest 45% from the field.
Howard struggled early, going 3-for-10. Reese was 3-for-8. Hillmon carried the offense with 15 first-half points.
Third Quarter Flip
The turning point came out of the locker room. Indiana briefly stretched its lead to five points to open the third quarter.
Atlanta answered with a 6-0 run to grab its first lead since the opening period. The Dream kept rolling, extending the burst to 13 unanswered points.
Reese scored six of those points. Howard capped the run with a three-pointer, putting Atlanta ahead 73-65.
Indiana tried to respond. Free throws from Boston and a layup from Clark slowed the bleeding.
But Atlanta answered right back, scoring six more points to take an 84-74 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Dream pulled away from there. Atlanta outscored Indiana 28-15 in the third quarter alone, building a double-digit cushion the Fever never threatened. Another Howard three pushed the lead to 13 points.
Indiana's defense had no answer the rest of the way, and Atlanta closed out the 113-96 win.
