Mackie Samoskevich Trade: The Seattle Kraken have acquired forward Mackie Samoskevich from the Florida Panthers.

The trade was announced Sunday. Seattle sent the No. 25 overall pick in Friday's NHL draft to Florida.

The Kraken also included a second-round selection in next year's draft. Samoskevich is 23 years old.

He has tallied 64 points across 160 combined regular-season and playoff appearances. The young forward gives Seattle a fresh scoring option.

The Kraken have missed the playoffs in four of their five seasons since joining the league. Samoskevich remains a restricted free agent.

He will need a new contract before next season. Kraken general manager Jason Botterill praised the addition.

"Mackie is a talented young player who we are excited to bring into the fold," Botterill said. He pointed to Samoskevich's speed and skill.

Botterill also highlighted his scoring ability. Samoskevich won the Stanley Cup with Florida in 2025.

Botterill said the forward can add scoring punch and energy to Seattle's lineup. The move fits into Florida's broader retooling effort.

The Panthers won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2024 and 2025. Injuries derailed their title defense this past season.

Trading Samoskevich for draft capital opens up salary space for Florida. The No. 25 pick originally belonged to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The second-round pick will be whichever is higher between Winnipeg's and Columbus' selections.

Florida selected Samoskevich 24th overall in the 2021 NHL draft. He played college hockey at the University of Michigan.

There, he was teammates with Matty Beniers, who is now his new running mate in Seattle.
