LeBron James Future: The Lakers had just lost 103-96 to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and LeBron James' 22nd NBA season came to a heartbreaking end.
A first-round playoff exit wasn't what the legend had hoped for, and his body was battered, but his spirit was even more so.
On Wednesday night, LeBron James hobbled out of the Crypto.com Arena, his left leg visibly swollen after a hard knee-to-knee hit.
LeBron James was asked the same question once more, just like in recent years. What comes next?
He did not have to deliver a clear answer after the Lakers' season-ending loss. But he said calmly, there was still some doubt in his voice.

He's been wondering, thinking, and making decisions before. The future is unclear once more.
When asked about retiring, 40-year-old LeBron James said, "I'm not sure." He spoke in a thoughtful tone. His words, truthful.
"At this time, I don't have that answer."
He clarified that he would take his time—spending moments with his family, his spouse, and inner circle to discuss and reflect on his future.
I'll talk to myself as well," he added, "to figure out how long I want to continue playing.
There is right now no clear path. No final decision. Just doubt. And time to think. "We'll see," he said.
For the 2025–2026 season, LeBron James has a player option. It is incredibly valuable at $52.6 million.
By June 29, he must make a decision. Either hit free agency or opt in.
His response to the question of how the Lakers could recover the following season was unclear.

The Timberwolves had just defeated them 4-1. even if they were seeded third. even though they have home-court advantage.
James, but had no answer. Not quite yet. Just a few more questions. and a long off-season.
"It's a business," LeBron James said seriously. "It's impossible to know what the roster will look like the next season.
Except from the men who are already contracted. Then he stopped. looked to be reflective.
"Dude, I'm thinking about myself a lot." He acknowledged his uncertainty regarding the team's future and admitted he wasn’t sure about the next steps.
Honestly, he continued, "I don't even know where I stand right now."
James responded to a question about whether he was considering switching teams. He made it clear that joining another franchise was not the topic of his comments.
It was about figuring out his own path. LeBron James told ESPN, "I'm just not sure if I want to keep playing."
That's all it is. It has nothing to do with leaving L.A. It has to do with playing at all. It was after a long night that he spoke.
He had just finished forty hard minutes of gaming. Gave everything he had.
22 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals were his final stats. The Lakers erased a 14-point deficit thanks to him.
He briefly gave the Lakers the lead in the fourth quarter. But the effort had a cost. physically. In the mind. on an emotional level.
Every word he spoke was added with that tiredness. One thing jumps out while thinking about LeBron James' next move.
Bronny James, his son, is now part of the Lakers and has two more seasons remaining on his contract. A team option for 2027–2028 is also available.
After the game, Bronny shared his feelings. He said, "I'm looking forward to the years ahead."
He was a rookie that season. He got to play with his father during the season. A memory he will never forget.
In the meanwhile, another issue surfaced. The Lakers' star guard, Luka Doncic, left the podium slowly. He had tweaked his back.
The hit came during a collision with Donte DiVincenzo. The same Timberwolves player that collided with LeBron’s knee.
There were more questions than answers at the end of the evening. For LeBron. For Luka. for the Lakers.
“It’s not good at all,” Luka Doncic said about his back. He had just finished a challenging forty-minute match. 28 points were scored. provided nine assists. 7 rebounds were grabbed.
He made an effort to leave. "So... that's it," he said, clearly uncomfortable. Similar like LeBron, Doncic must make a big decision this summer.
On August 2, the Lakers can offer him a four-year deal. Worth $297 million. This is a huge offer. Luka, though, is not in a hurry.
He was obvious that he would require time. It's time to think. It's time to weigh his future.
"I haven't given it any thought yet," Luka Doncic acknowledged. "I gave basketball my whole focus. But it's time to think everything now.
The season was just over. Feelings were still raw. JJ Redick, the Lakers' first-year coach, had a lot on his mind as well.
It was a disappointing finale to his first playoff run. Redick said, "There's always room for improvement."
"And I am know that I can improve greatly." Despite the early exit, both LeBron James and Luka Doncic praised Redick’s efforts.
They trusted him to lead. even though the outcome was painful.
With a smile, Luka Doncic said, "I think he's an incredible coach." "Over the past few months, I've really enjoyed having him as my coach."
He paused. "It even feels like I'm back in Europe sometimes," he added. And I love that feeling. Doncic's voice was kind.
"We built a strong bond. The bond is real. He said, "It has been absolutely incredible to have him as a coach."
Regarding JJ Redick, LeBron James shared his opinions. "I think JJ will continue to improve," he said.
He gave Redick's first season excellent scores. James added, "He had one hell of a campaign for a rookie coach."
"Being a new coach in the NBA is tough," he added. But your first job was coaching the Lakers? That is on an entirely different level.
James gave in to the pressure. It's not simple. But JJ did a great job handling it. Every day, he continued to learn.
He held us responsible. And he encouraged us to better," James said.
The Lakers' people of making the playoffs ended on Wednesday night by the Timberwolves.
They forced L.A. into an early offseason in addition to winning. The plan did not include this. Not in Los Angeles, in especially.
LeBron James thought about the pain. He said to have chased that feeling ever since his first NBA Finals play in 2007.
He was clear. "I feel like a failure every season if I don't make it to the Finals or win."
"It's the same here," James acknowledged. There will be a lot of disappointment during the offseason. and a feeling that something is missing.
