Big East Tournament: No. 7 St. John's achieved an important milestone. They shared their first regular-season Big East championship in thirty-three years.

On Wednesday night, the Red Storm defeated Butler 76-70. Their potential for the upcoming Big East Tournament is proven by their victory.

Butler's top scorer, Jahmyl Telfort, finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Butler tried, but couldn't to get past St. John's defense.


Late in the game, an important play was made by Zuby Ejiofor, who scored with a left-handed hook shot against Butler's 7-foot-1 center, Andre Screen, with 59 seconds left.


The play made many Butler fans to leave the arena and was a turning point in St. John's win.


They had challenge capitalize even though Butler held the advantage on rebounds. Although they were outscored in second-chance points, they outnumbered St. John's 39–32.

Butler scored 12 second-chance points, while St. John's scored 18. This effectiveness was very important to the win.


St. John's hopes to win the Big East title undisputed this Saturday. Madison Square Garden will host Seton Hall.


A win would guarantee them the conference's top position. Also, the Red Storm would win the championship outright if Creighton lost at Xavier.
