Anthony Rizzo Retirement: A special moment unfolded at Wrigley Field on Saturday.

Cubs fans celebrate the Anthony Rizzo retirement as he holds up a home run ball with a child on his shoulder.

Anthony Rizzo, a Cubs legend, retrieved the home run ball hit by current first baseman Michael Busch.

Busch launched a solo shot in the first inning against the Minnesota Twins. The ball landed in the right-field bleachers.

Rizzo didn't catch the ball out of the air. Instead, he reached down and grabbed it off the concrete.

He then held it up high, with a young boy perched on his shoulder. The scene delighted fans in attendance.

The moment came during a larger celebration. Rizzo took part in unveiling the new "Champions Gate" before the game.

The arching structure spans 31 feet. It sits on the west side of Wrigley Field. The gate marks the 10th anniversary of the Cubs' 2016 World Series title.

Rizzo played a key role in that championship run. He spent 10 of his 14 MLB seasons with the Cubs.

He retired from the league last year. During the 2016 regular season, Rizzo batted .292. He hit 32 home runs and drove in 109 RBIs.

His performance continued into the postseason. He added three home runs and 10 RBIs.

The Cubs went on to break a 108-year championship drought that year.

Saturday's ceremony drew a large crowd. Team owner Tom Ricketts spoke to fans.

Joe Maddon, who managed the 2016 championship squad, also addressed the crowd.

Rizzo joined them at the podium. Around 20 former players attended the event. Maddon and the returning players took the field before first pitch.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks threw out the ceremonial first pitch to kick off the game.
