Alex Bowman Bristol: Alex Bowman is set to make his return to NASCAR competition after receiving medical clearance ahead of the race weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Alex Bowman Bristol return to NASCAR racing in the No. 48 Chevrolet after recovering from vertigo symptoms.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver had been sidelined for four races while recovering from vertigo, a condition that impacted his ability to compete.

Team officials confirmed that Bowman will be back behind the wheel of the No. 48 Chevrolet as the series heads to Tennessee.

His return follows a careful recovery period, with both the driver and team emphasizing the importance of full medical readiness.

Bowman acknowledged the difficulty of being away from racing but said the decision to wait until he was fully fit was necessary.

He added that he now feels strong and ready to compete again.

The comeback provides a timely lift for Hendrick Motorsports as the team looks to regain momentum during a crucial stretch of the NASCAR season.

Alex Bowman was forced to withdraw mid-race on March 1 at Circuit of the Americas after experiencing vertigo-related symptoms.

Myatt Snider stepped in to finish the event in his place. In the following race at Phoenix, Anthony Alfredo took over driving responsibilities.

Justin Allgaier then handled the No. 48 car for the next three races as Bowman remained sidelined.

According to Hendrick Motorsports, Bowman’s return followed a detailed recovery plan. He completed test laps in a street car at a road course in North Carolina.

He also went through pit stop practice sessions and simulator runs to rebuild race readiness. After completing those steps, Bowman underwent a final medical review.

The team confirmed he met all clearance standards and is now approved to return to full competition.

Hendrick Motorsports President Jeff Andrews commended Alex Bowman for his commitment during recovery, highlighting that he followed the medical plan with discipline at every stage.

He said the team’s primary focus was safeguarding Bowman’s health and ensuring he returned only after being fully cleared by doctors.

Andrews added that the organization is excited to have Bowman back in the car for the upcoming race weekend.

Bowman’s return, however, comes with significant competitive pressure. Under NASCAR’s updated 2026 playoff structure, race wins no longer guarantee a postseason berth.

Instead, only the top 16 drivers in the overall points standings qualify. That change leaves Bowman at a disadvantage after missing multiple races.

He currently trails the final playoff position by 144 points, making his path to the postseason increasingly difficult as the regular season moves forward.
