Johnson hosted the NBC sketch show for the third time. Turnstile was the musical guest. Johnson turns 37 on Sunday, Oct. 4.
A joke about dating
Johnson used her opening to joke about her dating history. She said her friends never judge her choices.
She has publicly dated singers Chris Martin and Role Model.
Swift, 36, then walked onstage. Johnson introduced her as her "literal therapist."
Swift pushed back on the title. She said Johnson shows up at her house once a week with an empty wine bottle.
Then, she said, Johnson sprawls on the couch and overshares. Swift added that she occasionally replies, "Damn, that's crazy."
Johnson fired back with a quip. She asked whether that still counts as therapy.
Johnson also joked that dating musicians was a public service. She said it saves women money on antidepressants.
She thanked America, England, parts of Ireland and, allegedly, Cleveland. Swift cheered at the Cleveland line. It nodded to the roots of her husband, Travis Kelce.
The fashion
Swift wore a plaid off-the-shoulder mini dress by Simkhai, priced at $595.
She added a Saint Laurent Cassandre chain belt for $1,500. Her Burberry leather boots cost $1,995.
Johnson chose a red latex Versace dress from the Fall 2013 collection. Her Giuseppe Zanotti mules retail for $795.
She finished the look with a diamond collar necklace by Roberto Coin.
A birthday finale
Swift returned at the end of the show. She carried a turquoise-and-white frosted cake.
Johnson thanked her for sharing the birthday moment. She jumped up and down, then hugged her friend.
A friendship with history
The two have been friends for several years. Johnson attended Swift's wedding to Kelce, 36, in July.
Johnson also stars in Swift's music video for "Patient Zero." The song is on the deluxe edition of "The Life of a Showgirl."
The video premiered at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
At the Sept. 27 ceremony, Johnson presented Swift with the first Artist Director Honors award.
