Matt Henry's Fast Bowling Challenge India's Top Order!

Matt Henry Cricket: Rohit Sharma, speaking in Dubai on Sunday, said he would’ve still chosen to bat first—even if the toss had gone India’s way.

His decision made sense. India had chased targets in both of their previous matches in this Champions Trophy and won.

But this time, the script changed. New Zealand’s fast bowlers struck early with the new ball. Within just 6.4 overs, India’s top three—Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli—were back in the dressing room.

India was suddenly reeling at 30 for 3. For the first time in the tournament, their batting lineup was under real pressure.

Matt Henry cricket fury destroys India’s top order in stunning performance.

Shubman Gill, India’s vice-captain, couldn’t get going this time. He scored just 2 runs before Matt Henry trapped him lbw in the third over.

Gill decided to review the decision. But it didn’t work in his favor. He had to make the long walk back. Rohit Sharma looked solid early on.

He had already hit a four and a six in his 16-ball knock and was batting on 15. But his stay didn’t last long. On the very next ball, he went for a pull shot and mistimed it.

Kyle Jamieson struck, and Will Young took the catch. Another big wicket gone. India was in trouble, losing two key batters in quick succession.

Then came a moment of magic from Glenn Phillips at backward point. He leapt to his right and grabbed a one-handed screamer.

That incredible catch sent Virat Kohli back to the pavilion. Kohli had scored a ton in the previous match, but this time he managed only 11. His cut shot off Matt Henry looked promising, but found the fielder instead.

It was a disappointing way to end his innings—especially in his landmark 300th ODI. With Kohli gone, Axar Patel walked in earlier than expected. India had been using him at No. 5 recently, and he now joined Shreyas Iyer at the crease.

In a way, the pressure situation worked in India’s favor. It gave the middle order a solid workout before the big semifinal. They’ll be up against either Australia or South Africa on Tuesday.

A win over New Zealand would help India finish first in Group A. That means they’d meet Australia in the semifinal. But if they lose, they’ll stay in second place. And that would set up a high-stakes clash with South Africa, the leaders of Group B.

Before the match, there were speculations that India might rest some key players. But that didn’t happen. Instead, the 2013 champions fielded a near full-strength XI.

Only one change was made to the lineup. Pacer Harshit Rana was left out. In his place, India brought in mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. It was a clear sign—they were taking this game seriously.
