Spoiler warning: This report reveals plot details from Tracker Season 4, Episode 5.
Tracker Jensen Ackles: Viewers know something Colter does not.
Russell is up to something. Star and executive producer Justin Hartley enjoys that setup.
Last season ended on a mysterious note. Russell, played by Jensen Ackles, took on shady work. The deal was simple.
In return, Colter would not learn what a file said about their father's actions toward Russell.
Did the latest episode answer any of those questions? Not really.
Russell Resurfaces
Russell phoned Colter at the start of the episode. Colter noted he had not heard from his brother in months.
Viewers also saw Russell in the middle of questionable work. He left a body inside a shed.
Even then, his trademark humor showed up. He greeted a goat outside with a playful remark about goats hanging out.
After that, the hour turned to the case.
A Kidnapping With a Twist
Grant, an old friend of Russell's, needed help. He is played by Jeff Pierre.
Pierre previously appeared on Walker with Jared Padalecki, who starred alongside Ackles in Supernatural.
Grant's wife and daughter had been kidnapped. The kidnappers did not want money.
They wanted Grant to retract a report about an explosion during his last military tour.
Grant had believed the convoy carried medical supplies. It actually held a proprietary weapon.
A malfunction made public would cost the manufacturer a fortune.
Grant's partner on that mission had already retracted his statement. He was killed anyway.
Brothers on the Case
Russell returned to the United States and teamed up with Colter. The two moved fast.
Colter chased a suspect across rooftops. He nearly missed a landing. He caught himself in time and raced up the stairs.
Grant bought time by dragging out the retraction process. He also fought off the man sent to enforce the kidnappers' demands.
Russell and Grant then put that man in the trunk of a car, unconscious.
Colter took the company's CEO hostage. He forced the executive to lead them to the ranch where Grant's family was being held.
Reenie Wants to Know He's Okay
Back at home, Reenie heard Russell was in town. Reenie is played by Fiona Rene. She asked Randy, played by Chris Lee, to keep her updated.
Her concern has a clear source. In the Season 3 finale, Russell called her with a message for Colter.
He said he had to leave for a while. He said Colter would start asking questions, but could not know why.
He asked her to tell Colter he was fine. He promised to find her once things settled and explain everything.
This time, Reenie called him. Russell admitted he had gone dark and come back without a word.
He said he owed her a grand gesture and an explanation. She told him she only wanted to know he was okay.
Will He Disappear Again?
Grant's family was rescued. The right people were arrested.
Colter wondered whether Russell would vanish again. Russell said he had bills to pay. He brushed off teasing about the surfing he had claimed to be doing when he first called.
Reenie phoned Russell again. She told him his name would not appear in any reports tied to the case. She also said Grant had been cleared of wrongdoing.
Colter then told her the brothers were saying goodbye. Russell offered to stay and have dinner with her.
She appeared to accept. Whether he will stay long enough remains unclear.
Russell did stay for one thing. He grabbed beers with Colter at a bar, not in Colter's Airstream.
For now, his secret is still safe. Fans can only hope Ackles returns for more episodes this season. Hartley hopes the same.
Tracker airs Sundays at 9/8c on CBS.
