The Batman Part II: Steven Soderbergh is stepping in on "The Batman: Part II."
The filmmaker will help keep the highly anticipated sequel moving forward.
Production was paused earlier this month. DC Studios said director Matt Reeves needed time to focus on a family matter.
On Thursday, the studio announced a new development.
Soderbergh has agreed to help complete the final weeks of principal photography.
He will do so with the full support of DC Studios.
The studio said Soderbergh approached Reeves himself. He did so as an admirer of Reeves' work.
"Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew," the studio said. The goal is to fulfill Reeves' vision for the film.
Reeves moved quickly to calm fan concerns. He made it clear he is not leaving the project.
"I am not leaving The Batman Part II," he said. He also thanked Soderbergh for coming to his aid during a difficult time.
Reeves expressed gratitude for the support he has received. He thanked fans for their concern and well wishes.
Soderbergh also spoke about the move. He praised Reeves' work on the first film. He called it "stunning," "intentional" and "rigorously coherent."
The "Traffic" director said his role is clear. He will work with Reeves and the team to create footage that blends smoothly with what has already been shot.
That will allow Reeves to properly finish his film.
Soderbergh also said he will stay in close contact with Reeves throughout the process.
The sequel has been filming in London since June. Robert Pattinson returns in the title role.
"The Batman: Part II" is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on February 18, 2028.
