Robert Pattinson: Robert Pattinson is bringing an unexpected blend of intensity and charisma to his role as Chris Hansen in "Primetime."
The A24 film hits theaters Sept. 25. Pattinson plays the former "To Catch a Predator" host in the project, which is already earning praise ahead of its release.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, A24 released a clip from a conversation between Pattinson and director Lance Oppenheim.
Oppenheim is also working on an upcoming documentary about Elizabeth Holmes with Nathan Fielder.
In the clip, Pattinson opened up about what drew him to Hansen as a subject.
He praised Hansen's distinct screen presence. Pattinson said Hansen's personality and delivery have helped him remain a fixture in pop culture for years.
He explained that he wanted his performance to capture that same magnetic quality.
To describe his approach, Pattinson reached for an unlikely comparison. He called the character's energy fast-paced and intense.
He likened the combination to a mashup of "Scarface" and "Jerry Maguire," pointing to Hansen's unique cadence and delivery style as the inspiration.
"Primetime" also stars Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers. The film is set for a theatrical release later this month.
Hansen himself has voiced mixed feelings about how the project portrays him, according to prior reports.
