Matt Reeves: Production on "The Batman Part II" has been temporarily paused.
Director Matt Reeves has stepped away for personal reasons. Warner Bros. confirmed the news Monday, according to Deadline.
The studio said Reeves is focusing on a family matter. It added that he has the full support of DC Studios.
"We look forward to continuing the journey soon," the studio said.
The Warner Bros. and DC Studios sequel had been filming in London before the break.
Release date still uncertain
It is not yet clear whether the pause will affect the film's schedule. Sources say it is too early to know if another delay is coming.
The sequel was first set to open Oct. 1, 2027. Warner Bros. later moved the date to Feb. 18, 2028.
What Reeves has shown so far
Reeves recently shared a teaser of Robert Pattinson in the Batman costume. He has also teased test footage of the Batmobile and a snowy setting.
The script was finished after several delays. Filming had been expected to start in the spring.
Cast praise the script
Pattinson has called the script "extraordinary." He said the film will be "very, very different" from the 2022 original.
Colin Farrell also praised the screenplay. He called it "a masterwork." He said he believes Reeves will deliver "an extraordinary film."
Gunn denies simultaneous shoots
DC Studios chief James Gunn recently addressed a separate report.
The report claimed "The Batman Part II" and "The Batman Part III" would film at the same time. Gunn denied it in a post on Threads.
Returning and new cast
Pattinson returns as Batman. Andy Serkis is back as Alfred. Farrell reprises his role as Penguin.
Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch have joined the cast.
