Janelle Brown: "Sister Wives" has started a new chapter without Kody and Robyn Brown. The Season 21 premiere aired Sunday, Oct. 4, on TLC.
It showed Janelle, Christine and Meri Brown reacting to the couple's exit from the series.
Christine said she was struggling to process the news. She called the decision bizarre and said she did not know what it meant.
Meri said she was surprised. Janelle said she was very shocked.
The departure follows years of upheaval in the Brown family. Christine ended her spiritual marriage to Kody in 2021 after 25 years and six children.
Janelle left soon after, following nearly 30 years and six children together. Meri was the last of the three to leave.
Robyn is now Kody's only remaining wife. They legally married in 2014, after Kody legally divorced Meri.
Robyn brought three children from a previous marriage, and Kody has since adopted them.
The couple also has two children, Solomon and Ariella.
Kody's apology tour
Last season ended with Kody traveling to apologize to his ex-wives. He called the trip a pilgrimage.
The premiere showed his separate meetings with Janelle, Christine and Meri.
Janelle said she doubted his sincerity. She described the trip as an attempt to redeem himself.
She also noted that he has not contacted her since. In her view, he publicly attacked her character afterward.
The Coyote Pass dispute
Janelle was referring to Kody's public claims about the family's Coyote Pass land in Arizona.
He said Janelle told him he could sell the property out from under her, Christine and Meri, and that she trusted he would pay her.
That sparked talk of a "backdoor deal" between Janelle and Kody, which upset Meri.
Meri said the family was excited when it first bought the land. After the divorces, she said, keeping it no longer made sense.
She said she later heard that Janelle and Kody had discussed selling it without her and paying her whatever they decided she was owed.
Janelle denied making any such deal. Christine said the family's shared pot of money paid for the property.
At the Season 20 tell-all, Kody said he had received an offer and earnest money on the land.
Janelle said Kody invented the story as a parting shot because he and Robyn were leaving the show.
She said he made the claim months after the sale closed. She called the accusation deeply personal and said it hurt her feelings and made her angry.
Janelle and Meri talk
Janelle asked Meri to meet to clear the air. She told Meri that Kody had floated the idea of selling the land and holding money in reserve for her.
Janelle said he suggested Meri would get it once she did what he wanted.
Janelle said Kody repeatedly made veiled threats about how much each wife was owed.
She said she was frustrated that he keeps stirring up drama and that she does not want to give him that power.
She told Meri she never tried to cut her out of anything. Meri told Janelle she appreciated her.
The episode ended with Meri, Janelle and Christine setting their differences aside to look through family photos together.
New episodes of "Sister Wives" air Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
