All details in this report are based on industry leaks and analyst reports. Apple has not officially confirmed any of the following products or specifications.
iPhone Ultra: Apple is gearing up for what could be one of its most significant product events in years.
With roughly four months to go before its annual September showcase, rumors and leaked details are already painting a picture of a dramatically expanded iPhone lineup — one that may finally include a device fans have been anticipating for nearly a decade.
A Foldable iPhone Is Coming — and It May Be Called the iPhone Ultra
The biggest story heading into fall 2026 is Apple's reported first-ever foldable iPhone. The device, widely referred to in leaks as the "iPhone Fold," may officially carry the name iPhone Ultra when announced.
Leaked dummy models suggest a shorter, chunkier form factor — a sharp departure from the glass slab design Apple has used since the original iPhone.
According to MacRumors, the device is expected to feature a 5.5-inch display when closed and approximately 7.8 inches when fully open, with a wider 4:3 aspect ratio similar to an iPad.
That puts it in the same visual territory as Huawei's Pura X Max Wide foldable.
The phone is rumored to measure just 4.5mm thin when open — impressively slim, but that thinness comes with a trade-off.
There reportedly won't be enough room for the TrueDepth camera system that powers Face ID.
As a result, Apple is said to be reverting to Touch ID for biometric authentication. The camera bump will house two lenses.
Samsung is expected to supply the OLED display panels, given the Korean company's established expertise in foldable screen technology.
The iPhone Fold will feature two screens — one on the exterior for use when the phone is closed, and a larger internal display for when it's open.
The chassis will be constructed from a combination of titanium and aluminum.
Color options will be restrained. Reports indicate just two finishes: a silver/white option and an indigo shade reminiscent of the iPhone 17 Pro's Deep Blue. Fans of bold colors may be disappointed.
iPhone 18 Pro: Familiar Design, More Power
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to carry forward the design language of its predecessor, maintaining similar display dimensions to the iPhone 17 Pro. However, under the hood, the upgrades are meaningful.
The 18 Pro is rumored to run on Apple's next-generation A20 chip, delivering improvements in speed and efficiency over the A19 used in the current lineup.
The display is expected to feature LTPO+ technology, which should translate to better battery efficiency.
Additional rumored changes include a smaller Dynamic Island, a simplified Camera Control button that drops touch sensitivity and haptic feedback, and a frosted finish on the back Ceramic Shield panel.
Leaked color options for the 18 Pro include light blue, dark cherry, dark gray, and silver — all in an aluminum finish consistent with the 17 Pro's build.
iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e: Budget Pressures Take Hold
Supply chain headwinds may be reshaping the standard iPhone 18 in significant ways.
According to a Weibo leaker cited by MacRumors, Apple is reportedly scaling back certain components in the base iPhone 18 — including manufacturing processes, chips, and memory — in a move designed to bring its cost closer to the more affordable iPhone 18e tier.
This would be an unusual step for Apple, which has historically kept a meaningful feature gap between its base and entry-level models.
Industry analysts point to rising component costs driven by surging demand for RAM and storage in AI data centers as a key factor pressuring the entire tech supply chain.
iPhone Air 2: Minor Refresh Expected
Debate continues over whether Apple will release an iPhone Air 2 or pivot back to an iPhone 18 Plus. Current rumors favor a second-generation Air.
However, the upgrade is expected to be modest — improved battery life, a newer chip for better performance, and possibly a vapor chamber for more effective thermal management. No major design overhaul is anticipated.
Release Schedule: Two Waves in 2026 and 2027
Apple appears set to break from its traditional single-wave release strategy this cycle.
September 2026: The iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Fold are all expected to be unveiled at Apple's fall event.
The foldable may ship as late as December, though some reports indicate it remains on track for a September launch — with hinge-related production issues cited as a potential delay factor.
March 2027: The iPhone 18e and, notably, the base iPhone 18 are both expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027.
This would mark a significant departure from Apple's longstanding practice of releasing its standard model alongside the Pro lineup.
Either the iPhone Air 2 or an iPhone 18 Plus is also expected to ship during this window.
Pricing: The Foldable Could Cross $2,000
Pricing for unannounced products is always speculative, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that the foldable iPhone is expected to surpass the $2,000 mark — nearly $1,000 more than the current iPhone 17 Pro starting price.
For context, Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 starts at $1,100, and Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold begins at $1,799.
For the rest of the lineup, expected price points — assuming Apple holds the line — break down roughly as follows:
- Model | Estimated Price
- iPhone 18e | $599
- iPhone 18 | $799
- iPhone Air 2 | $999
- iPhone 18 Pro | $1,099
- iPhone 18 Pro Max | $1,199
- iPhone Fold / Ultra | $2,000+
Whether Apple can maintain those price points amid ongoing supply chain pressures — or whether it will opt for cost-cutting component choices in its non-Pro models — remains one of the more closely watched questions heading into the fall.
