Mikaela Shiffrin: American alpine star Mikaela Shiffrin captured her sixth overall World Cup title on Wednesday. The title ties the all-time record in women’s alpine skiing.
Shiffrin secured the championship during the final race of the season. She entered the giant slalom needing only a top-15 finish to lock up the overall title.
The American skier delivered a solid run and finished safely inside that mark. Her closest challenger, German skier Emma Aicher, still had a second run remaining.
However, Shiffrin’s result had already effectively secured the title before Aicher completed her final attempt. The victory capped another remarkable season for Shiffrin.
It also added another historic milestone to one of the most successful careers in alpine skiing history.
American alpine standout Mikaela Shiffrin has drawn level with one of the sport’s most iconic figures.
At 31, she now shares the record of six overall World Cup titles with Austrian great Annemarie Moser-Pröll.
Moser-Pröll established her dominance in the 1970s.
She claimed five consecutive titles from 1971 to 1975.
She later returned to win a sixth overall crown in 1979.
Shiffrin’s success has come across multiple eras of her career.
She first won three straight titles from 2017 to 2019.
She then added two more consecutive championships in 2022 and 2023.
Fellow American Lindsey Vonn sits third on the women’s all-time list with four overall titles.
In the men’s standings, Austria’s Marcel Hirscher leads the record books with eight overall World Cup crowns.
The achievement further cements Shiffrin’s legacy as one of the most accomplished skiers in World Cup history.

Shiffrin also controlled the slalom discipline throughout the World Cup season. She won nine of the 10 slalom races on the calendar.
