Harry Potter: HBO on Tuesday released the first official image from its upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation, giving fans an early glimpse of the new version of the iconic young wizard.
The image was released one day before the show’s first teaser trailer is scheduled to debut on Wednesday. The photo does not reveal Harry Potter’s face.
Instead, the character is shown from behind walking toward the Quidditch pitch. He is wearing Gryffindor Quidditch robes and carrying a broom over his shoulder.
The image also includes a small detail that longtime fans quickly recognized. A banner reading “Fred and George” can be seen in the background.
The banner is a reference to Fred and George Weasley, the twin brothers of Ron Weasley and popular characters from the original story.
The series is being developed by HBO as a long-term television adaptation of Harry Potter. Each season is expected to follow one book from the original series.
The teaser trailer scheduled for release Wednesday is expected to provide the first real footage from the highly anticipated series.
The project remains one of the most closely watched upcoming streaming releases.
Dominic McLaughlin has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation, where he will portray the famous young wizard at the center of the story.
He will appear alongside Alastair Stout, who will play Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton, who has been selected to play Hermione Granger.
The casting of the three main characters was first announced in May. The announcement confirmed the actors who will portray the central trio in the series.
Production for the show began in July, approximately two months after the casting reveal.
The series is currently in production as promotional plans begin to roll out. A teaser trailer for the show is expected to be released on Wednesday.
The teaser was hinted at through a social media caption that included a lightning bolt symbol, referencing Harry Potter’s famous scar.
No further information about the teaser or footage details has been released so far.
The new series is expected to be a major television adaptation and remains one of the most highly anticipated upcoming projects from HBO.
The television version of Harry Potter was officially announced in 2023 during a major update to HBO’s streaming platform branding.
At that time, the company introduced the name Max for its streaming service.
The platform has since returned to the name HBO Max following another rebranding decision.
The upcoming series is being developed with an entirely new cast.
Actors from the original Harry Potter film franchise are not currently expected to appear in the television adaptation.
The project is intended to retell the original story in a new long-form format for television audiences.
Earlier this month, Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter in the original film series, shared his thoughts about the new show.
He said he is happy that his son will be able to grow up watching a different version of the story.
His comments indicate a positive reaction from at least one member of the original cast as the new adaptation moves forward.
The series remains in development and is expected to follow the storyline of the original books across multiple seasons.
Daniel Radcliffe has shared his reaction to the upcoming Harry Potter, saying he is happy a new generation will experience the story through a different cast.
During a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, Radcliffe said he likes the idea that his son could grow up watching a version of Harry Potter that does not feature him in the lead role.
He explained that watching a movie or show starring one’s own parent might make it harder for a child to stay immersed in the story.
He suggested it could make the viewing experience feel less natural.
Radcliffe also revealed that he reached out to Dominic McLaughlin, who will play Harry Potter in the new series, to wish him success in the role.
He said he wanted to show support as the new actor prepares to take on one of the most recognizable characters in film and television.
Radcliffe has also urged fans and interviewers not to compare the new cast with the original film actors.
He specifically asked that the new performers not be questioned about his performances or those of Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
He said the new cast should be given the opportunity to build their own versions of the characters without being constantly linked to the original films.
The upcoming television adaptation continues to move forward in production, with more details expected to be released as filming progresses.
