Nick Sheridan Alabama: Michigan State is moving toward the hiring of Nick Sheridan from Alabama as its next offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN.

The expected transition will take place after Alabama completes its College Football Playoff campaign.

Sheridan currently works with the Crimson Tide as a co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He is a former University of Michigan quarterback with deep ties to the Big Ten.

Sheridan arrived at Alabama in 2024 alongside head coach Kalen DeBoer after serving on DeBoer’s staff at Washington.

He handled lead offensive coordinator responsibilities during the 2024 season. This year, Sheridan has shared oversight of the offense with Ryan Grubb, who continues to call plays for Alabama.

Nick Sheridan, 37, is poised to make a return to the Big Ten following his tenure in the Southeastern Conference.

His previous experience in the league includes a stint at Indiana, where he led the Hoosiers’ offense as coordinator during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Sheridan first joined Indiana’s coaching staff in 2017 and steadily advanced within the program. He comes from a football background, as the son of longtime college and NFL coach Bill Sheridan.

Sheridan also has direct ties to the conference as a former Michigan quarterback from 2006 to 2009.

Nick Sheridan is expected to join Michigan State’s coaching staff under newly appointed head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald has kept continuity on defense by retaining coordinator Joe Rossi from the previous regime.

His early staff moves have also included the addition of Max Bullough as co-defensive coordinator. Bullough is a former Michigan State standout and returns to East Lansing in a leadership role.

LeVar Woods has also been added to the staff after a long tenure as Iowa’s special teams coordinator. Woods will handle special teams duties for the Spartans in the same capacity.

Alabama remained alive in the College Football Playoff after mounting a comeback win over Oklahoma in Friday’s opening-round game.

The Crimson Tide is scheduled to face Indiana on Jan. 1 in the CFP quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Presented by Prudential.

CBS was the first outlet to report Michigan State’s expected hiring of Sheridan.
