Andreas Christensen Injury Update: Barcelona have been dealt a fresh injury blow after defender Andreas Christensen suffered a partial ACL tear during training on Saturday.

Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is on the pitch before his Andreas Christensen injury update, confirming a partial ACL tear.

The setback is expected to keep the Danish international out for an extended period. Christensen is 29 and had only just returned to regular action.

He made his first start since September earlier this week in the Copa del Rey. The center back marked his return by scoring Barcelona’s opening goal in a 2–0 win over Guadalajara.

The injury comes at a difficult moment for the club as it manages defensive depth across competitions. Barcelona has not announced an official recovery timeline.

Barcelona announced that Andreas Christensen picked up a knee injury after an awkward twist during the weekend.

The issue will keep the defender out of Sunday’s LaLiga fixture against Villarreal.

Club officials indicated the setback is likely to sideline him beyond the upcoming match. Medical evaluations have led Barcelona to opt for a non-surgical approach to treatment.

The club said Christensen’s return will be determined by how his recovery unfolds over time.

The latest setback continues a difficult injury run for Andreas Christensen over the past two years.

The Barcelona defender is entering the final year of his contract next summer.

Persistent fitness problems have limited his time on the field. Christensen featured in just six matches across all competitions last season.

An ongoing Achilles issue was the primary cause of that absence. He was also forced to miss matches earlier this season because of a calf injury.

Andreas Christensen had previously been a dependable figure at Barcelona before his recent injury problems.

He featured 74 times across his first two seasons following his arrival from Chelsea on a free transfer.

The defender was a key part of the squad that secured the LaLiga title in the 2022–23 campaign. His current absence has left Barcelona thin in the heart of defense.

Ronald Araújo is also unavailable after the club granted him time away to focus on his mental well-being.

Barcelona is currently turning to Pau Cubarsí and Gerard Martín as its main options in central defense.

Martín has been shifted inside after previously operating as a full-back. Jules Koundé and Eric García remain available to fill the role when required.

The limited depth at the back could push the club to review its plans for the January transfer window.

Sources previously indicated Barcelona did not intend to make midseason additions.

That outlook was based on the belief that Ronald Araújo would return to action in 2026.

Christensen’s injury may now prompt a change in strategy.
