Abdul Carter Giants: Giants linebacker Abdul Carter started Monday night’s game against the Patriots on the bench.

It was the second time in three games that the rookie was held out at the opening snap.

By the time head coach Mike Kafka sent him in during the second quarter, New England had already built a 17-0 lead.

Carter had also been sidelined at the start of Week 11, later admitting he made a mistake that he described as “detrimental to the team.”

Giants linebacker Abdul Carter gave a brief and blunt response when asked why he started Monday night’s game on the bench.
“s—t happens,” he said, according to SNY.

Head coach Mike Kafka also kept the reasoning close to the vest.

Kafka told reporters it was simply his choice not to play Carter at the start and declined to offer any further explanation when questioned about what led to the decision.

Head coach Mike Kafka defended his decision to open the game without Abdul Carter on the field. “That was my decision,” Kafka said.

“These choices are never easy, but it was mine to make,” Kafka stressed that the move was not a knock on the rookie.

He acknowledged Carter was probably frustrated, but said he believed the decision was in the team’s best interest. “That’s the call I made, and that’s where we are,” Kafka said.

Giants linebacker Abdul Carter delivered steady production once he was brought into the game.

He recorded a sack by bringing down Patriots quarterback Drake Maye for no gain on a scramble.

Carter ended the night with four tackles, despite joining the action after the Giants had already fallen into a deep deficit.

The Giants are now hoping this second disciplinary message from head coach Mike Kafka sticks as the first-round pick works through his rookie year.
