Kroger Stores Closing: Kroger is scaling back its presence in the U.S. The retailer plans to close 60 stores by 2026. Chains like Harris Teeter and Mariano’s will be affected in more than 10 states.
Right now, Kroger operates over 2,700 stores in 35 states. In June, the company said it would trim its store count over the next year and a half.
On June 20, interim CEO Ron Sargent told investors that several Kroger stores were losing money nationwide. He noted that the problem wasn’t limited to one region.
Kroger has not shared a full list of affected locations. Still, union groups and local reports have confirmed closures in multiple states.
The shutdowns involve more than just Kroger-branded stores. Other chains under the company, including Mariano’s, Jay C, Harris Teeter, and Pick ’n Save, are also on the list.
