Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift: Universal Studios Hollywood has confirmed an opening date for its highly anticipated Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster.
The ride opens September 16. That's just days before the official start of fall.
The announcement caps months of anticipation. A Super Bowl commercial earlier this year first teased the coaster.
It promised riders speeds of up to 72 mph starting "Summer 2026." Nearby residents later raised noise complaints about the ride.
The coaster winds down a steep, terraced section of the Universal Studios Hollywood property.
Park officials responded by adding transparent sound-reduction barriers along parts of the track.
The coaster is themed around a detailed warehouse garage set, inspired by the Fast Saga films.
Riders travel along 4,100 feet of elevated track. The ride vehicles rotate up to 360 degrees. Guests will experience forces reaching 3.6 Gs during the ride.
Four vehicles anchor the ride experience. Each is modeled after cars featured in the Fast & Furious franchise.
They include Dom Toretto's Dodge Charger, a Mazda RX-7, a Nissan Skyline GT-R and Brian O'Conner's Toyota Supra.
A large mural greets guests at the ride's arrival platform. Artist Tristan Eaton created the piece.
It depicts the climactic street race from the original 2001 film, The Fast and the Furious. The artwork shows the Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra racing alongside a train.
The queue line features props recreated from the films. Interactive elements include QR codes tied to Universal's Backlot Club fan platform.

Notable props in the queue include:
- The car cannon from Fast & Furious 6, driven by O'Conner
- A roll cage and winch featuring the 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8 from Fast Five
- The vault truck from Fast Five
- Letty Ortiz's motorcycle from F9
- A recreated NOS engine system inspired by the films
- The ramp car driven by Owen Shaw in Fast & Furious 6
- The rolling bomb from Fast X
- A rollover stunt rig replica
Part of the ride track passes through a transparent, glass-enclosed section visible from the queue.
Universal Orlando Resort will debut its own version of the coaster in 2027.
The opening arrives during Universal's yearlong celebration of the Fast & Furious franchise's 25th anniversary.
Festivities have included an event in Cannes, a special anniversary screening of the original film, and announcements of a new television series and an upcoming feature film.
