Jamahl Mosley Fired: The Orlando Magic have dismissed head coach Jamahl Mosley, the franchise confirmed on Monday. Mosley, 47, spent five seasons leading the team.

Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley fired after losing a 3-1 playoff series lead to the Detroit Pistons.

He guided Orlando through a rebuilding phase and into the playoffs in each of the past three years.

However, the team failed to progress beyond the first round during that span. Their most recent postseason exit came after a seven-game loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Orlando surrendered a 3-1 series lead in that matchup. Mosley finished his tenure with a 189-221 regular-season record.

Jeff Weltman will oversee the Orlando Magic’s search for a new head coach, the organization confirmed.

Weltman recently agreed to a contract extension prior to the team’s run to the NBA Cup Final Four.

During his tenure, Jamahl Mosley guided Orlando to two division titles. The team also recorded three consecutive winning seasons under his leadership.

Those results came despite significant injuries to key starters. The roster challenges were especially severe over the past two seasons.

Jeff Weltman expressed appreciation for Jamahl Mosley following the decision to part ways.

“We’re grateful to Jamahl for all he’s done for the Orlando Magic,” Weltman said in a statement.

“We appreciate his leadership and the positive contributions he made as head coach.”

“While this was a difficult decision, we feel it is time for a new voice and a fresh perspective.” “We wish Jamahl and his family nothing but the best.”

Before joining Orlando in 2021, Mosley served as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks.

During his tenure, he built teams centered on defensive strength.

The Magic ranked third in the league in defensive efficiency during the 2023–24 season.

They improved to second overall the following season. However, the team dropped to 11th in that category this season.

Jamahl Mosley delivered one of the franchise’s strongest regular seasons in recent memory with 47 wins in 2024.

That total marked the Orlando Magic’s highest single-season win count since 2011. The team also reached the playoffs in three consecutive seasons under his leadership.

That run represented Orlando’s longest postseason streak since a six-year stretch from 2007 through 2012.

Despite those achievements, offensive production remained a persistent concern. The Magic ranked in the bottom 10 in offense in each of the past four seasons.

The Orlando Magic showed some improvement this season but fell short of expectations following a major offseason move.

The franchise traded four first-round picks to acquire guard Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies in a blockbuster deal last summer.

The move raised expectations for a significant step forward.

Instead, Orlando spent much of the season battling to move out of the play-in positions in the Eastern Conference standings.

The campaign ultimately ended in another first-round playoff elimination.
