Freddie Freeman: The Los Angeles Dodgers made a roster adjustment Sunday, placing first baseman Freddie Freeman on the paternity list.

Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman on paternity leave as prospect Ryan Ward makes his MLB debut against the Rockies.

To fill the vacancy, the team called up Ryan Ward from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The 28-year-old has spent seven years developing within the organization and is now set for his first appearance in the major leagues.

Ward is expected to start at first base and will hit seventh in the lineup as the Dodgers face the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted Ryan Ward in the eighth round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

He progressed through the club’s minor league pipeline and reached Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2024.

Ward put together a breakout campaign in 2025.

He was named Pacific Coast League MVP after launching 36 home runs and collecting 122 RBIs for the Oklahoma City Comets.

His strong form continued into the current season. Before earning his call-up on Sunday, Ward hit .324 with four home runs in 18 games at Triple-A.

Across 696 minor league appearances, Ward holds a .266 career batting average. He has also produced 154 home runs and 520 RBIs during his time in the minors.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts highlighted Ryan Ward as a player who has earned every opportunity through on-field results.

He pointed out that Ward was never viewed as a highly touted prospect.

He stressed that nothing was handed to him during his development. Roberts said Ward has consistently proven his value at each level.

He added that he appreciates players who advance through hard work and performance.

In February, Freddie Freeman announced that he and his wife, Chelsea, are expecting their fourth child.

The veteran first baseman has started the season strong. He is batting .296 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
