Damon Stoudamire Georgia Tech: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets has parted ways with men’s basketball head coach Damon Stoudamire, sources told ESPN.

Coach Damon Stoudamire Georgia Tech basketball head coach dismissed after three seasons and a 12-game losing streak.

The decision follows a difficult finish to the season. Georgia Tech lost its final 12 games. The skid dropped the team to an overall record of 11-20.

The Yellow Jackets also struggled in conference competition. They finished 2-16 in league play.

Stoudamire spent three seasons leading the program. During that time, Georgia Tech posted a combined record of 42-55 under his leadership.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets made the decision amid a long stretch of inconsistent results for the men’s basketball program.

The Yellow Jackets have struggled to establish sustained success over the past decade.

Since 2010, the team has appeared in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament only once.

Contract details also outline the financial obligations tied to the departure of former head coach Damon Stoudamire.

Georgia Tech is expected to pay Stoudamire roughly $2.6 million over the next two years. The amount could decrease if he accepts another coaching job during that time.

Officials at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets remain focused on rebuilding the men’s basketball program and restoring its competitiveness, according to people familiar with the situation.

The coaching change represents an early test for athletic director Ryan Alpert.

He began his role at Georgia Tech in July after leaving a senior administrative position at the University of Tennessee.

Former head coach Damon Stoudamire built his reputation long before entering the coaching profession.

He was a standout guard for the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball during his college career.

Stoudamire later spent several seasons playing in the National Basketball Association.

Before accepting the Georgia Tech job, he worked as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics from 2021 through 2023.

He also previously led the Pacific Tigers men's basketball as head coach, guiding the program for five seasons.

Damon Stoudamire opened his tenure with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets during the 2023–24 season.

The team finished that year with a 14-18 record. A notable moment came early in conference play.

Georgia Tech pulled off an upset victory over the No. 7 ranked Duke Blue Devils men's basketball in Stoudamire’s first Atlantic Coast Conference game as a head coach.

The following season brought slight improvement. Georgia Tech ended the 2024–25 campaign with a 17-17 mark and secured a place in the National Invitation Tournament.

This season, however, proved far more difficult for the program. The Yellow Jackets struggled throughout the year and were unable to halt a prolonged losing skid late in the schedule.

One of the most difficult moments came in a 94-68 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball. In that game, Georgia Tech trailed 42-9 at one stage.

The season concluded with a 79-76 defeat against the Clemson Tigers men's basketball on Saturday.

The loss left Georgia Tech at the bottom of the ACC standings. The Yellow Jackets also missed qualification for the conference tournament.
