Police said a 29-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, though the New York Police Department did not release his name.

A Jets spokesperson later confirmed to the BBC that the injured man was Boyd. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police were called to a shooting in midtown Manhattan at about 02:00 EST on Sunday after a 911 report came in.

Officers arrived to find the scene outside Sei Less, an upscale restaurant in the neighbourhood.

The NYPD told CBS that the investigation is ongoing and that no suspect has been taken into custody.

A spokesperson for the New York Jets said the team is aware of the incident involving Kris Boyd but declined to provide additional details.

Kris Boyd joined the New York Jets earlier this year after spending two seasons with the Houston Texans.

He previously played one season for the Arizona Cardinals and four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

He has been on the Jets’ injured reserve list since August, when he suffered a shoulder injury during a team practice.

New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson called for prayers for teammate Kris Boyd in a post shared on X.

“Lord, please place your healing hand over Kris and bring him back to safety and good health. Please guide him through this,” Johnson wrote.

Supporters also took to the platform, offering their own messages of hope and wishing Boyd a full recovery.
