Red Sox Standings 2025 Wildcard: The Boston Red Sox inched closer to a playoff berth on Tuesday night. They secured a 4-1 victory over the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto.

The win kept Boston locked into the American League’s second Wild Card spot. Their position improved even more after the Houston Astros fell 5-1 to the Oakland Athletics in Sacramento.

Boston Red Sox players are celebrating after a win, which moves them closer to clinching their playoff spot in the Red Sox standings 2025 wildcard race.

That loss pushed Houston two games back of Boston in the standings. The Red Sox took a major step toward October on Tuesday night. FanGraphs now gives them a 96 percent chance to make the playoffs.

Boston sits one game ahead of the Detroit Tigers for the second Wild Card spot. The Tigers stumbled after losing to the surging Cleveland Guardians.

Cleveland has moved to the top of the AL Central, leaving Detroit at risk of dropping out of the playoff chase entirely. Boston’s magic number dropped to three after Tuesday’s games.

The formula is simple. Three Red Sox wins, three Astros losses, or any combination of the two will seal a playoff berth.

If Boston takes its next two games and Houston slips on Wednesday, the clinch could come as early as Thursday night. Garrett Crochet is set to pitch for the Red Sox on Wednesday in Toronto.

He could start Game 1 if Boston reaches the Wild Card series. The team needs just three wins in its final five games to lock in a playoff spot.

That stretch includes two games in Toronto and three at Fenway against the Tigers. The American League playoff picture is coming into focus.

The Blue Jays, Mariners, and Yankees have already locked in their spots. Three more teams will claim the remaining playoff berths.

The Red Sox, Guardians, Tigers, and Astros are all fighting for those final positions. Toronto leads New York by one game in the AL East.

Cleveland holds the edge over Detroit in the Central via a tiebreaker, with two matchups still to play. In the AL West, Seattle has a solid four-game lead.

The Yankees are three games ahead of Boston for the top AL Wild Card position. They could still challenge Toronto for the division crown.

If the Red Sox finish in the second Wild Card spot, they would travel to face the top Wild Card team in a best-of-three series.

If the Red Sox keep up their winning streak in Toronto, they could treat this weekend’s series against Detroit as a chance to secure playoff seeding.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are in a tougher spot. After losing seven straight, they must fight to protect the final AL playoff spot in the three-game set at Fenway.

With only five games left in the regular season, the picture is still unsettled. Boston, however, is edging closer to its first postseason trip since 2021.
