Travis Hunter was picked second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. He built his reputation at Colorado as a rare two-way talent. Hunter played both wide receiver and cornerback — and shined in both roles.

In April, Jaguars GM James Gladstone talked about the team’s vision for him.

He said Hunter will play on both offense and defense. For now, the focus will be on learning the offensive playbook first.

Interestingly, the Jaguars announced his signing twice on X. One post listed him as a defensive back. The other introduced him as a wide receiver.

The Jaguars were originally set to pick at No. 5 in the draft. But they made a bold move to trade up for Travis Hunter.

To get him, they struck a deal with the Browns.

Jacksonville gave up four picks — No. 5, No. 36, No. 126, and a 2026 first-rounder. It was a big price, but the Jaguars clearly believe Hunter is worth it.

At Colorado, Travis Hunter proved he was a true hybrid talent. He racked up 1,258 receiving yards and scored 15 touchdowns. On defense, he added 35 tackles and picked off four passes.

His incredible season earned him the 2024 Heisman Trophy. He also won several top honors — the Walter Camp, Bednarik, and Biletnikoff Awards.

Now, he's set to begin his NFL journey.

Jaguars rookies will report to training camp on July 19 at the Miller Electric Center. The rest of the team joins them on July 22.

Jacksonville kicks off their season at home on September 7. They'll face the Carolina Panthers in the opener.

What Hunter’s Arrival Means for the Jaguars

This is great news for the Jaguars.

They had Hunter fully involved during spring and early summer workouts.

And now, the rookie deal is officially done.

That’s a big win for the team. There won’t be any contract distractions hanging over them. When training camp begins, they can stay focused and move forward without worry.

For someone like Travis Hunter, all of this matters even more. He’s already been working on both offense and defense.

The Jaguars are still figuring out how to use him in the smartest way possible.

If he had missed any time this offseason — even back in May — it would’ve made things harder. That kind of gap could have slowed his progress in a big way.

Hunter’s situation is different from most rookies. It needs extra care and attention.

Thankfully for Jacksonville, things have gone about as well as they could so far.
