The Trap Netflix Series: Missing a Harlan Coben-style thriller? Netflix has a new series that may fill the gap.

"The Trap" is a six-part psychological thriller. It is based on the 2015 best-selling novel of the same name by Melanie Raabe.

The tagline says it all. One woman. One duel. One trap.

The series is German and has been dubbed into English. It opens on a joyful note.

Best-selling author Lisa Konrad, played by Friederike Becht, is dancing with her younger sister, Anna.

Anna is played by Josephine Thiesen. The two hug without a worry in the world. Lisa's voiceover looks back on a time when she was truly happy.

Then the story cuts sharply. Lisa is now a shadow of her former self. She is sitting in a psychiatric ward. Her sister has been murdered. From there, the story takes off.

After the loss, Lisa withdraws from the world. She moves into a large country house rented from her publisher.

She lives alone. Few people know that she was the one who found Anna dying on the night of the murder.

Then Lisa sees a face on television. She believes she recognizes the killer. He is investigative journalist Robert Lenzen, played by Hans Löw.

Lisa decides to set a trap. According to the production notes, she uses herself as bait.

What follows is a tense game of cat and mouse. The story is told through Lisa's eyes. That keeps viewers locked in.

The creative team has a strong track record. The same group made "Dear Child." That German Netflix series won an International Emmy.

Producer Tom Spiess explained what drew him to the book. He said the title alone is catchy, and the premise is clear.

He called it a thriller that shows danger and darkness in a real, immediate way.

He was also captivated by its tight focus on two characters locked in a duel.

All six episodes arrived on Netflix on Oct. 13. The full season is ready to stream now.

Set aside an evening. It is built to keep you on the edge of your seat.
