A Defining Year for Richardson
Richardson's rookie contract is still in effect for another two years. However, he has not developed as quickly as expected.
His two-season completion rate of 50.6% raises serious concerns.
He shows moments of genius. He is exciting to watch because of his athleticism and big-play ability.
However, the Colts are unsure about their quarterbacking future due to his accuracy issues and injuries.
Shane Steichen, the head coach, is also feeling pressure. He has a two-season record of 17–17.
For him and Richardson, this year is critical. The quarterback position needs to be stable for the Colts.
Russell Wilson as a Potential Option?
Sporting News NFL analyst Bill Bender thinks the Colts might choose the Pittsburgh Steelers' strategy.
He says Indianapolis might compete by bringing in a seasoned quarterback.

A Smart Backup Plan?
Wilson's signing would not put the Colts in the running for the Super Bowl.
However, it would provide them with a dependable fallback. Given Richardson's history of injuries, this move is even more important.
It might be time for the Colts to think about moving on if Richardson struggles once more.
That might include a new quarterback and a change in coaching.
The Colts are hopeful for the time being. Their goal is for Richardson to become their long-term leader.
However, this season will be really important. Indianapolis may be forced to find an alternative if he doesn't get better.
