Inter Miami: Inter Miami's captain, Lionel Messi, has made history by winning 45 career trophies, the most ever by any footballer.

On July 21, the club paid a heartfelt tribute to Messi before their 2-1 victory over Chicago Fire. Even though Messi was sidelined with an injury, Miami still managed to extend its lead in the MLS Eastern Conference.

Inter Miami celebrated Messi's incredible achievement of his 45th trophy, which he earned after Argentina's 1-0 win over Colombia in the Copa America 2024 final.

The club honored their captain's monumental milestone with a special tribute before their match against the Chicago Fire.

Messi, 37, who suffered an ankle injury in the final, was left in tears but Lautaro Martinez saved his team with the winning goal in the 112th minute.

Messi has since been out indefinitely with an ankle injury but was seen wearing a brace during an emotional tribute organised by Inter Miami.

The Copa America win was Messi's fourth international trophy with Argentina, having previously failed to win the 2015 and 2016 Copa America finals and the 2014 FIFA World Cup final.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner was surprised when he arrived on the pitch to find children's mascots holding plaque cards depicting every honour he has won and forming a semicircle in the centre of the pitch.

At the event, co-owner Jorge Mas handed Messi a special memorabilia, with the number 45 clearly displayed on the center circle.

Since returning from international duty, the Argentine seems to have luck on his side, with the Herons topping the MLS Eastern Conference standings in the two matches he watched from the sidelines.

After beating Toronto 3-1, Inter Miami won 2-1 over Chicago thanks to goals from Matias Rojas and Jordi Alba on either side of half-time.

With a five-point lead over Cincinnati, the Herons have clinched their first-ever berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Meanwhile, Messi will remain out of action for an indefinite period, with coach Tata Martino recently indicating that the 37-year-old would not be risked and would only return to the field once he has fully recovered from his injury.
