Shawn Ashmore: Christy Carlson Romano has publicly accused her former "Cadet Kelly" costar Shawn Ashmore of ghosting her.

The actress, 42, made the claim in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Ashmore is best known for playing Iceman in the "X-Men" film franchise.

Romano shared a throwback photo of the two on set. In the caption, she said they dated during the summer they filmed "Cadet Kelly" and for a few months afterward. She said he later stopped contacting her.

She also said she heard his team felt she wasn't famous enough for the relationship to continue.

Romano used the post to promote her upcoming memoir. She wrote that Hollywood is "brutal for a young girl." She said that is why she wrote the book.

Her tone was different in 2022. Romano told E! at the time that the relationship was not serious. She called Ashmore "a true gentleman" and "a very nice guy."

Ashmore has not responded to her latest claim.

Fans Weigh In

The post drew mixed reactions in the comments. Some users praised Romano for being open. Others found the caption harsh.

One follower called the post "bizarre and hostile." Romano replied directly. She said she has a book coming out and is talking about it. She added that only the events themselves were hostile.

Another commenter compared the former "Even Stevens" star to Regina George from "Mean Girls." The joke referenced the character handing out papers filled with secrets.

Some users pointed to social media numbers. They noted Romano has more than 100,000 more Instagram followers than Ashmore. One fan joked that his team "didn't plan well."

Another commenter wrote that they remember Romano but not Ashmore. That comment collected nearly 4,500 likes.

About the Book

Romano's memoir is titled "Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Rise and Fall of a Child Star." It will be released Oct. 6.

Publishers describe it as an account of childhood fame, addiction, motherhood and identity. They say it also covers breaking cycles and choosing your own life.
