A cliffhanger that left fans hanging
Kaitlin Olson stars as Morgan, a quirky and brilliant single mother.
The LAPD hires her as a consultant to crack tough cases. Season 2 wrapped up April 7 with a shocking final scene.
Olson admitted the finale left a lot of loose ends. She told People that the show has many directions to explore next.
She said the story begins with one big question. Does Wagner survive?
Spoiler alert: The details below reveal the Season 2 finale.
What happened to Wagner
Capt. Nick Wagner, played by Steve Howey, is shot in the finale. He was meeting a secret FBI source at the time.
His father, a corrupt politician, had arranged the meeting. The source was expected to share information about Morgan's missing ex.
Morgan arrives and finds Wagner bleeding badly. His fate is left unclear.
Howey's future is uncertain
The episode was Howey's last as a series regular, Deadline reported. He joined the cast last October on a one-year contract. That deal has now ended.
Sources told the outlet that it is not clear if he is gone for good. He could also return as a guest star in Season 3.
Why Wagner was a mystery
Olson spoke to Variety about the character's introduction. The team wanted an air of mystery around him. They also wanted him to puzzle Morgan.
Olson said it mattered to her that Morgan is not always right. She is brilliant. She is also human. She is unsure whether she can trust this man.
Olson said the writers enjoyed exploring those unknowns. Does he need something from her? Is he truly interested in her?
She added that audiences love watching two people fall for each other. That makes the heartbreak hit harder when it all falls apart.
Morgan and Wagner shared their first and only kiss in the second-to-last episode of Season 2.
"High Potential" has been a ratings win for ABC since it debuted in 2024.
