He faced reporters shortly after his exit. Naturally, the conversation turned to Mikayla Matthews' recent decision to leave "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives."

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Leavitt called it a difficult choice. He noted that Matthews has been part of the show since its earliest days.

He said her decision likely came from a place of honesty, something he respects.

Leavitt admitted he's sad to see her go and doesn't think anyone connected to the show is thrilled about it either.

He wished Matthews and her family well. He also revealed that Matthews attended the taping to support him.

He described the cast as close friends, saying he holds a soft spot for everyone involved with the series.

Matthews broke the news of her departure on Instagram. She said she made the decision more than a week earlier, following unspecified news that changed her outlook.

She didn't go into detail about what prompted the shift.

Matthews explained that staying would mean supporting behavior that conflicts with her personal values, pointing to her own history with abuse growing up.

She said no paycheck was worth compromising her morals.

She added that continuing to profit from the show felt unethical, calling it a disservice to children, to the cast's healing process, and to viewers.
