Yankees Vs Mariners Last Game: The New York Yankees showed remarkable accuracy with Major League Baseball’s automated ball-strike challenge system on Monday night, even though the team fell 2–1 to the Seattle Mariners.
The game was another early sign that New York has quickly adapted to the league’s new technology during the opening stretch of the 2026 season.
The Yankees successfully challenged five ball-strike calls and won every review.
The perfect record came in only the team’s fourth game of the season, continuing a strong early trend with the system.
Shortstop Jose Caballero started the sequence in the second inning.
He challenged two called strikes, including a full-count pitch thrown by Mariners starter Luis Castillo. Both calls were overturned and ruled balls after review.
Later in the game, Giancarlo Stanton used a challenge to overturn a called strike on a 1–2 slider. He remained in the at-bat and eventually reached base with a single.
Moments afterward, Jazz Chisholm Jr. also successfully challenged a first-pitch slider that had been called a strike.
The overturned call continued the Yankees’ perfect night using the system.
Despite the narrow loss, the Yankees’ success rate with the automated ball-strike challenge system became one of the most notable takeaways from the game.
The team’s early-season performance suggests they are quickly learning how to use the technology to their advantage.
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised his team’s hitters for their preparation and decision-making after another strong performance with the automated ball-strike challenge system.
Boone said the players did an excellent job identifying which pitches to challenge.
He explained that maintaining such a high success rate every game is unlikely, but he believed each challenge made during the game was justified.
According to comments reported by ESPN, Boone noted that some of the overturned calls came in important moments that helped the team extend innings and create scoring opportunities.
He added that many of the pitches were extremely close, making the decisions to challenge more difficult.
Boone also said teams do not want to rely on challenges too often.
However, he credited his hitters for their current approach at the plate and said they are doing a strong job of controlling the strike zone early in the season.
The New York Yankees have quickly become one of the most effective teams in Major League Baseball when it comes to using the automated ball-strike challenge system this season.
Through the early part of the 2026 season, the Yankees lead MLB with 10 successful challenges.
The team holds a 10-for-11 record on challenges overall, with the only unsuccessful attempt coming from shortstop Jose Caballero.
Even with their perfect performance using the system during Monday’s game, the Yankees struggled to generate offense.
They scored only one run against Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, who threw six scoreless innings and kept New York’s lineup under control for most of the night.
During the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was seen expressing frustration from the dugout.
The moment came during a brief exchange with home plate umpire Mike Estabrook after one of the ball-strike challenges.
The Yankees will try to respond in the next game of the series.
New York is scheduled to face the Seattle Mariners again Tuesday as the series continues in Seattle.
