Hannah Rowe: New Zealand’s left-arm spinner Flora Devonshire will miss the ODI World Cup after suffering an injury to her bowling hand. In her place, seamer Hannah Rowe has been called up to the squad.
Devonshire, 22, was preparing for her first ODI World Cup when she cut her left hand during a practice session. Doctors say she’ll need about two to three weeks to recover.
“We’re all disappointed for Flora,” said head coach Ben Sawyer. “She gave everything to secure her place in the team, and it’s tough to see her tournament end so soon.”
Hannah Rowe, a seasoned player with 60 ODIs under her belt, will step in for her third World Cup appearance.
She’ll miss New Zealand’s clash against South Africa on October 6 but is set to join the team the following day.
“We’re really happy to bring in someone as experienced as Hannah Rowe,” said head coach Ben Sawyer.
“She’s not a direct replacement for Flora, but her all-round game and familiarity with subcontinent conditions will be a big plus for us.”
New Zealand started their World Cup campaign with an 89-run defeat to Australia. They’ll take on South Africa next on October 6 in Indore before heading to Guwahati to face Bangladesh on October 10.
