Jets vs Panthers Week 7: The New York Jets are just hours away from clashing with the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium in Week 7. It’s been a rough season for New York, which remains winless at 0-6.
The Panthers, on the other hand, have surprised many with their balanced 3-3 record. This won’t be an easy test for the Jets, and all eyes will be locked on their young quarterback, Justin Fields, to see how he responds under pressure.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has spent the week backing Justin Fields, showing full support despite recent struggles. Fields is coming off a rough game against the Denver Broncos, managing just 45 passing yards in a losing effort.
Glenn says he’s committed to sticking with Fields, but the question remains — for how long? Brian Costello of the New York Post hinted that Glenn may be leaving himself a little room to change course if things don’t improve soon.
“Justin Fields is officially on the hot seat,” Costello said. The Jets quarterback just turned in one of the roughest passing performances the franchise has ever seen.
As Sunday’s matchup with the Panthers approaches, the real question is whether Fields will still be the starter by the time the game ends.
Spotlight on Justin Fields
Coach Aaron Glenn has stood firmly behind Justin Fields all week. He hasn’t hinted at the possibility of a benching.
Still, the Jets sit at 0-6, and Fields just came off a nightmare performance, taking nine sacks while the offense recorded minus-10 passing yards.
If he struggles again against Carolina, Glenn may have no choice but to turn to backup Tyrod Taylor. Not that Glenn would ever openly admit it.
At 26, Justin Fields has had a season full of ups and downs. Some games show him as a player the Jets could confidently build around. Other matchups, like last week, raise doubts about his future with the team.
Which Fields will show up on Sunday? If he performs like he did against the Dolphins and Cowboys, he could quiet some of the critics. But a repeat of his Denver performance would only intensify concerns about his job security.
