NHL Schedule Release: The Florida Panthers are ready to start the NHL season with a special moment. Before hitting the ice against the Chicago Blackhawks, they’ll raise their second Stanley Cup banner in a row. It’s a proud milestone for the team and their fans.
The Florida Panthers, coming off back-to-back championship wins, will hit the ice at 5 p.m. ET on October 7.
Their matchup will open the NHL’s season-opening tripleheader, as announced on Monday.

They recently took down Edmonton in a Stanley Cup Final rematch. Now, the Panthers are setting their sights on something bigger — becoming the first team to win three straight Cups since the New York Islanders' iconic run from 1980 to 1983.
On October 7, hockey fans can look forward to more action. The New York Rangers will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at 8 p.m. ET.
Later that night, the Colorado Avalanche will travel to face the Los Angeles Kings at 10:30 p.m. ET. The full NHL schedule will be officially revealed on Wednesday.
The 2024-25 season will be the final one with the traditional 82-game format. Starting in 2026-27, the league will move to an 84-game schedule.
This update comes under a newly extended collective bargaining agreement, officially approved by both the NHL and the Players' Association.
There’s something else exciting in store for 2025-26. The season will include a break to let players represent their countries at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics — marking the NHL’s long-awaited return to the Olympic stage since 2014.
