Don Sweeney Contract Extended: The Boston Bruins are preparing for a season of change. That said, their general manager, Don Sweeney, will be a constant.

The team announced that Sweeney has signed a new two-year extension. This provides continuity in leadership in the upcoming changes.

Neely is confident that these decisions ultimately will bring the Bruins back into the race.

This season Don Sweeney made some bold moves. He traded core players—Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, and Brandon Carlo.

It wasn't an easy choice to make, but he thought it was time for change. Earlier in the season, Sweeney had also let go of coach Jim Montgomery.

Joe Sacco was named interim coach and provided the Bruins with a record of 25-30-7. And now Sacco is a candidate to be the permanent head coach of the Bruins.

Don Sweeney has a lot to do this offseason. He's got to find a new head coach. He also has to rebuild a roster that finished at the bottom of the Atlantic Division

The lack of consistency among the forwards doomed the team. The goaltending from Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo wasn’t good enough. The injuries didn’t help.

But there is little room for excuses. Team CEO Charlie Jacobs raised the bar last month. He said it plainly—next season should be much better.

He said they’ve had serious conversations about the future of the team. If this current roster stays healthy and we make the right moves this summer, he feels we can return to our previous success.

He hopes to see them in the playoffs and playing well by May of 2026.

Cam Neely wouldn’t even stop at that.

On Tuesday, he bolded the mission statement. It’s not competing, but playing for championships.

Don Sweeney genuinely showcased his gratitude. He said he's thankful to Charlie, the Jacobs family, and Cam Neely for having faith in him.

It's not just a job for Sweeney, it's an honor to be part of the Bruins. He was proud as he spoke about the history of the team and the fanbase.

He is fully aware of the weight of the position. And he embraces it. The expectations of Bruins fans are high, and he expects high of himself.

He focuses on building a team that earns respect. One that makes Boston proud. And one that can get the Stanley Cup back home.

It's been 10 years of Sweeney running the show, and during that time the Bruins have been in the playoffs eight times. Their last championship was in the 2010-11 season.
