Connor Bedard Contract: For the fifth straight season, the Chicago Blackhawks have failed to qualify for the playoffs. For the most of this time, General Manager Kyle Davidson has been in leadership.
The team fired head coach Luke Richardson back in December. Anders Sörensen has been serving as the temporary coach ever since. Davidson must now make two important decisions.
He must hire a head coach on a full-time basis. Also, he has to choose this summer whether to extend Connor Bedard's contract.
In the offseason, Bedard is qualified for a rookie extension. But the trade rumors have attracted more attention about him. Recently, there have been further rumors that he wants to leave Chicago.
Bedard has strongly denied the reports, however. He said his feelings in a recent statement.
“I’ve said it 100 times, I mean, I love it here,” Bedard said. “I have a great relationship with Kyle and everyone. It’s a special sports town.
We’ve got a lot of really great players coming up. We really trust the direction we’re going.”
Fans have been cooled by Bedard's said, which have also mostly put an end to the rumors. He obviously sees a bright future in Chicago.
Bedard has already proven himself as the franchise's face at the young age of 18. Many have been pleased by his maturity, leadership, and on-ice performance.
The Blackhawks defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday night, finishing up a successful season.
The off-season is now the main focus. Will Bedard accept Kyle Davidson's early offer of a long-term deal, securing his future? Or will the group hold off until the next year?
Connor Bedard isn't going anywhere anytime soon, that much is sure. He is committed to the rebuild and to restoring Chicago's success in spite of the noise.
Contract talks for Connor Bedard may be about to heat up. But his loyalty to the team? That seems really solid.
