Slayground: Jeremy Saulnier is back with a new thriller. The "Rebel Ridge" filmmaker has teamed up with A24 for "Slayground."
The film is set to open in theaters on January 29, 2027.
Saulnier wrote and directed the project. His last film helped launch Aaron Pierre into stardom. Now he is turning to horror.
The first trailer centers on a fugitive named Michael, played by Cory Michael Smith, who is forced to revisit the horrors of Halloween night.
That night ended in tragedy. It happened at a haunted attraction where Michael worked. Several people died. Michael fled. A SWAT team was called in.
The trailer leaves the biggest question open. Michael may be guilty. He may also be taking the blame for someone else. He and a group of locals appear ready to find out.
The release date has shifted. "Slayground" was first planned for this fall. A24 moved it back by a few months.
Some moviegoers may have already seen its trailer before a screening of "Resident Evil."
The studio has not been quoted on the reason in this report. One possibility is that A24 wanted to give other films more room.
Another is that it wanted space from "Onslaught." That film also follows masked killers and has a sizable body count.
The delay could work in the film's favor. January 2027 may be an ideal spot for "Slayground." It could kick off the new year's wave of horror releases.
Chase Sui Wonders, Young Mazino and Stephen Root round out the cast. "Slayground" arrives in theaters on January 29, 2027.
