Noah Wyle: The doctor is in. Noah Wyle now holds a title few actors ever earn.
People magazine named him its Sexiest Man Alive for 2026 on Tuesday.
Wyle stars as Dr. Michael Robby Robinavitch in HBO's award-winning medical drama The Pitt. He is 55.
He says the news caught him off guard. At first, he thought it was a prank.
He told People he never expected this honor. Not in a million years, he said.
He joked about what comes next. He hopes life turns into wine and roses from here on out.
Then he took it back. He expects plenty of teasing from friends and family instead.
His wife is already on board. Wyle said Sara Wyle is pleased. He added that the honor reflects well on her taste.
The couple has been married since 2014. They have an 11-year-old daughter, Frances.
Wyle also has two older children with his ex, Tracy Warbin. Son Owen is 23. Daughter Auden is 21.
Wyle first rose to fame in the 1990s. He played Dr. John Carter on NBC's ER.
His co-stars included George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, Eriq La Salle, Sherry Stringfield and Julianna Margulies.
The show earned him three Golden Globe nominations. It also brought five Emmy nominations. He never won any of them. ER ended in 2009.
Then came a comeback. About 16 years later, Wyle returned to the hospital drama world as Dr. Robby.
The role has paid off in a big way. He has won four Emmys so far. Two of them are for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He also won a Golden Globe.
Even so, the new title has not made him feel at ease. Wyle joked that he had hoped this would be the day he finally got comfortable in his own skin. It was not.
He said he prefers being inside other people's skin. He likes playing characters.
Speaking as himself, without a script, is still the hardest thing for him. He admits he gets self-conscious.
The Pitt premiered on HBO in 2025. Season two arrived earlier this year. Season three is set to debut in January 2027.
The next season will work differently. Wyle explained the change to Deadline in July.
The show used to follow a near real-time plan. Writers finished episodes about eight months before airing.
They set the stories in the same time period viewers were living in.
Season three breaks that pattern. It depicts Thursday, November 12, 2026. It will air in January 2027.
