Nigella Lawson: Nigella Lawson is once again trending online. The food writer previously went viral for mispronouncing "microwave" on the BBC's "Cook, Eat, Repeat."
Now, "The Great British Bake Off" fans have found a new reason to talk about her.
This time, viewers are focused on how she eats. Specifically, they can't stop watching her take giant bites of baked goods on camera.
"The Great British Bake Off," known in the U.S. as "The Great British Baking Show," debuted on the BBC in 2010. The series has since grown into a global hit with a devoted fan base.
Lawson stepped in as a judge for season 17, taking over from Prue Leith. The new season aired in the U.K. on Tuesday.
American viewers can catch it on Netflix starting Friday. Leith, 86, announced her departure earlier this year.
She said it simply felt like the right time to step back. Longtime fans admitted they were sad to see her go.
Despite the transition, Lawson's first episode has largely won over audiences. Still, one habit stood out to viewers immediately: the size of her bites.
One user on X joked that Lawson appeared capable of "unhinging her jaw to swallow her prey," sharing a photo of her digging into a slice of cake.
Other social media users made similar jokes, comparing her enthusiastic bites to someone eating for the very first time.
Some comments were less generous, calling her approach to dessert "really weird." Several users even posted parody videos mimicking the exaggerated bites.
Even so, the jokes haven't overshadowed the praise for Lawson's expertise. Many fans have called her a "perfect" fit for the show.
Giuseppe Dell'Anno, a former "Bake Off" champion, backed that sentiment. He told BBC Radio 4's Today program that Lawson is a "nice fit with the ethos of the program."
Longtime judge Paul Hollywood also weighed in. Speaking to The Guardian last week, he said it was "lovely to see Nigella come into the tent."
He added that she blended into the team immediately and picked up on the show's spirit right away.
Lawson herself seems unbothered by the online chatter. During the season's first episode, she embraced her love of food head-on.
"I don't have many skills, but eating is one of them," she joked.
