Heidi Klum: Heidi Klum is opening up about the wellness routine that keeps her thriving at 53.

The supermodel says her husband, Tom Kaulitz, played a surprising role in her health journey.

He encouraged her to put on weight. Klum says the advice boosted her confidence. She now embraces her curvier frame.

A Family Approach to Healthy Eating

Klum shared her outlook during a recent cover story with Us Weekly.

She says cooking and eating well are part of her daily life. Her children have grown up watching her habits. Some have adopted them more than others, she noted.

Klum was previously married to singer Seal from 2005 to 2014. The former couple shares four children: Leni, Henry, Johan, and Lou.

Klum says her eldest daughter, Leni, shares her food preferences. Both favor garlic-forward, unprocessed meals over fried or heavily cooked dishes.

Why Klum Avoids Raw Foods

Klum says she steers clear of raw produce. She believes raw foods are tougher on digestion.

Her fix: lightly blanching fruit in a pan with water. She also recommends chewing thoroughly.

Limiting fluids during meals helps the body break down food properly, she says.

Klum links her food philosophy to overall wellness. She questions the logic of poor eating habits paired with heavy supplement use.

Getting back to basics matters more, she says. Staying natural is her guiding principle.

Staying active is also central to her routine. Klum says she has long carried her own luggage up and down stairs.

Raising four children kept her constantly on the move, she added.

Klum Opens Up About Weight Gain

Klum says she faced criticism in the modeling industry for having a curvier build than her peers.

She credits her husband with changing her perspective. Kaulitz reportedly told her she'd look better with more curves.

That advice broke from modeling industry norms, she said, where thinner has traditionally meant better.

Looking back at old photos, Klum says she agrees with her husband's take. She believes her proportions look better at a slightly larger size.

Klum also addressed the popularity of GLP-1 weight loss drugs. She says she has no interest in using them.

She acknowledged her body has changed over the years. She's no longer the same jean size she once wore, she said.
