Kyrie Wolves: Kyrie Irving did not appear in any games during the 2025-26 NBA season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in 2025.

Kyrie Irving and Anthony Edwards face off on court amid growing Kyrie Wolves trade rumors.

There was early optimism that Irving could potentially return late in the season.

However, the Dallas Mavericks and his representatives confirmed in February that he would miss the remainder of the year due to the injury.

The decision to keep Kyrie Irving sidelined was made to ensure he could fully recover without risking another ACL injury.

The focus remains on preparing Irving for a complete return next season.

At the same time, speculation surrounding Irving’s future continues to grow across the league.

Former NFL player Chad Ochocinco Johnson said this week that he has heard the Minnesota Timberwolves could explore a move to pair Irving alongside Anthony Edwards.

After their playoff elimination against the San Antonio Spurs, the Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to evaluate ways to strengthen the roster around Anthony Edwards.

Edwards signed a five-year contract extension worth more than $244 million with the franchise in 2023.

League observers believe Minnesota could benefit from adding another elite scorer to ease the offensive burden on Edwards.

With the Timberwolves seeking additional firepower, Kyrie Irving has emerged as a potential fit to complement the team’s current core.

Kyrie Irving formed one of the league’s most productive backcourts alongside Luka Doncic during their time with the Dallas Mavericks.

The pair helped guide Dallas to the NBA Finals, ending the franchise’s decade-long absence from the championship series.

Although the Mavericks were unable to secure the title, Irving and Doncic were widely viewed as an effective offensive partnership throughout the playoff run.

Anthony Edwards is reportedly aware of the impact Irving had in Dallas.

According to basketball insider Brandon Robinson, Edwards has privately encouraged the Minnesota Timberwolves to consider pursuing a healthy Irving.

The Dallas Mavericks are entering a new phase following their decision to move on from head coach Jason Kidd.

League executives believe the organization is now focused on building its future around Cooper Flagg.

Reports have indicated that Dallas could aggressively target draft capital and younger players who better fit Flagg’s long-term development timeline.

As a result, Kyrie Irving may no longer align with the franchise’s long-range plans.

That situation has fueled growing speculation across the league regarding potential trade interest in the veteran guard.
