Dan Evans Tennis: Dan Evans kicked off his Queen’s Club run in style. He took down world number 13 Frances Tiafoe in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. It was a confident performance that pushed him into the last 16.
This win was special for Evans. It was his first victory over a top-20 player since he defeated Alex de Minaur, then ranked 12th, at the 2023 Davis Cup.
Dan Evans is on a mission to climb back up the rankings. Once ranked as high as world number 21, he has now slipped to 199. It's been a tough road, but he's not giving up.
He received a wildcard entry into the Queen’s tournament. His opening match was no easy task. He faced American Frances Tiafoe, who recently reached the French Open quarter-finals.
Grass hasn’t always been Tiafoe’s strongest surface. Dan Evans made sure to make the most of that. On a warm afternoon in west London, he delivered some of his finest tennis in recent years. The result — a dominant straight-set victory.
Evans got off to a confident start. He saved an early break point. Then, with sharp play, he broke Tiafoe’s serve at 3-3 to take control of the set.
Tiafoe responded quickly, breaking back as Evans sent a forehand long. For the next 10 minutes, the momentum shifted. Evans struggled to find answers as the American took control.

But Evans wasn’t ready to back down. Lifted by strong support from the home crowd, he stayed focused. From 5-4 down, he fought back hard. He broke Tiafoe again and calmly served out the set.
The momentum had clearly shifted in Evans’ favor. Riding a wave of confidence, he won five games in a row and quickly took a 2-0 lead in the second set.
At 3-1, he got a bit of luck. His forehand clipped the net cord and just dropped over, giving him a crucial double break.
From there, Evans stayed composed.
He wrapped up the match with ease. As he sealed the win, the crowd rose to their feet, giving him a well-deserved standing ovation.
