Emma Navarro: Jessica Bouzas Maneiro was losing 15-30, but she had history on her mind. The 22-year-old Spaniard was in a strong position.

She was one point away from being the first female to defeat a Top 10 player 6-0, 6-0 at a Grand Slam since Martina Navratilova beat world No. 7 Manuela Maleeva at the 1989 US Open. Back in 1989, she crushed Maleeva.

Emma Navarro’s 6-0, 6-1 loss at Roland Garros.

Bouzas Maneiro was on the cusp of achieving possibly the very rare feat.

Today at Roland Garros, two major things were different today. For starters, this match was not a quarterfinal—it was the first round.

Typically we see Top 10 players in later rounds. Secondly, Bouzas Maneiro's ranking is No. 68 in the world.

That couldn't be further from Navratilova's ranking of No. 2 in the world when she played.

Navratilova’s record was safe today. Navarro finally got a game after a double fault came from Bouzas Maneiro.

She raised her arm with a smile to give the moment a hint of playfulness.

Only one game later, Bouzas Maneiro won the game. Navarro's statistics were awful. She made just 44% of her first serves.

Her second serve points were worse, winning just 22%. When Bouzas Maneiro broke her, it was the seventh and last time she broke her.

In total, Navarro made 23 unforced errors. She only managed four winners in the match.

Bouzas Maneiro controlled the match. She won 56 from 86 points played. Complete domination.

"This is a brutal loss," said Mark Petchey on truTV. "I sense there's much more to this story."

It was the first time they had ever played each other, and it wouldn't be a shock if Navarro hopes it was the last one.
