Ezekiel Elliott Cowboys Return: The chapter of Ezekiel Elliott’s emotional journey with the Cowboys has come to an end.
Elliott's successful 2024 return to Dallas sparked expectations that he would help lead the Cowboys to the playoffs.
Unfortunately, this season didn’t go the way anyone expected.
After being drafted fourth overall in 2016, Elliott made an immediate splash.
He was one of the most talked-about prospects coming out of Ohio State.
With 1,631 running yards and 16 total touchdowns, he led the NFL in his rookie season and dominated the league.

Elliott played for the New England Patriots in 2023 following seven successful seasons in Dallas.
It was clear that his heart still beat for Dallas even though his time in New England was a new chapter in his life.
The Cowboys invited him back in 2024 in the hopes that his skills and leadership would inspire a playoff run.
Unfortunately, that didn't work out. The Cowboys’ playoff run ended much sooner than anyone had hoped.
Elliott took a risk after realizing that his chances of winning a Super Bowl were diminishing.

He requested to be released so that he could join a team with strong postseason prospects.
The Cowboys' longstanding owner, Jerry Jones, agreed.
Jones gave the release without hesitation because he had a great deal of appreciation for Elliott's services to the team.
In an emotional statement, Jerry Jones said:
We're releasing Zeke from the Cowboys roster today out of pure respect and gratitude for everything he’s meant to this team. We want to give him the chance to find any playoff opportunities that might be out there. Like I’ve said before, Zeke’s place as one of the all-time greats to ever wear the Star is set in stone and will always be a proud part of our story. We thank him, love him, and wish him the best.
With a career full of achievements, Elliott leaves Dallas. In all, he has scored 88 touchdowns and has run for more than 9,100 yards.
