NFL Eagles News: Darius Slay was concerned that he might be cut by the Philadelphia Eagles. He realized that possibility even after helping the team win a Super Bowl.


He is handling it well, though. He knows it's only business. Slay talked about his feelings on a recent Big Play Slay podcast episode. He said, "It's part of the business." It doesn't make me sad.

I gave the team everything I had. He appreciates the opportunity to sign elsewhere in free agency.


The possibility of rejoining the Eagles is something Slay is open to. But he knows that the NFL is always changing.

To free up cap space, teams want to get younger. With youngsters like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, the Eagles have done just that.


Slay acknowledges that, at 34, he is past his best. He still performs at a high level, though.


In 2022, Slay recalled, his contract was reworked He had a great talk with Howie Roseman, general manager of the Eagles.

According to Roseman, it had nothing to do with Slay's skill as a player. As Roseman put it, "We'll see how things shake out."


Slay would love going back to Philadelphia. However, Detroit is also on his mind. Before joining the Eagles, he played with the Lions for seven seasons.


A seasoned cornerback is needed by the Lions. Slay might be a good fit. He isn't, however, restricting himself to only two teams.


Slay said, "I would love to play for either Detroit or Philadelphia." "However, I'm also open to other offers."

He suggested teams he would love to play for under coach Mike Tomlin, such as Pittsburgh.


Later in free agency, Slay is probably going to sign a contract. Teams will take his skills and expertise into consider.


He still has a lot to give at 34. He is the kind of reliable cornerback that any NFL team could use.


Slay could return to the Lions or Eagles. But he's not ruling anything out. He is eager to go on to the next phase of his profession, no matter what.
